Summer plans: go to grad school, learn Latin, read many books on feudalism, hang with family, play golf.

Summer Plans
I started working out consistently again. So far I've lost about 5 pounds, and my chest has already tightened up. Gotta get in shape for the beach in a week!

G-O-L-F: Four of the best letters ever.
I paid for a membership to the local golf club today and hit over 300 balls...got me a few blisties. Gotta go work out. Must drop 15 pounds in 3 weeks or I'll have Captain Ahab chasing me down the beach (big white whale...get it?).

-1.8
Jamie and I worked out last night. I'm pretty tired today. My joints hurt, too. But I did lose 1.8 pounds! So, I changed my official starting weight to 244, and after losing 1.8, I'm now at 242.2. I've got a long way to go to get back to 234, but I'm confident I'll make it.
What doesn't help is when people bring huge sheet cakes and large cookie platters for teachers. Why would they do that? I've stayed away from the teacher's lounge to avoid eating cookies and cake.

Ok...enough is enough. I didn't even eat dinner last night and I still gained .8 pounds!! I didn't have soda, chocolate milk, or anything!! I finished my final at 845 last night and got home around 10pm, so I didn't work out. Tonight I will begin.
Good news-I got an A on my seminar paper on the Ethiopian Jews.
It's going to be a good day.

Uh-oh. I didn't work out yesterday. Got home, made dinner, watched Lost season finale, edited video, went to sleep at 12am, gained .4 pounds overnight...I wonder if I sleep-eat...
Now I'm 243 and won't work out tonight since I've got a final exam and won't be home until 10 or so. Such is the life of a grad student. I had a professor tell me in my first semester that when she taught her first grad seminar, she had a student who was a marathon runner and in great health. By the time he finished his degree, he smoked and was overweight.

Good Night
12:02 a.m.--Just finished editing the video for a bunch of students who probably won't care but I'm such a perfectionist that I just can't do otherwise. It took an hour just to find the perfect music and I'm still not 100% satisfied with it. Oh well.
Back in the Saddle @ 242.6
Hey everyone! I'm back. After a long hiatus (Feb-April) I'm now able to get back to blogging, and more importantly, to working out. I'm starting P90X again this week. Unfortunately I gained back all but 4 pounds of what I lost while writing a paper for my graduate class. 30 pages later, I'm fat again and my starting weight is 242.6 pounds. My goal is 235 by the end of May, and 225 by the end of June. If it's faster than that, great, if it's slower...uh...I'll cross that bridge if I come to it. Meanwhile, keep me updated with you. I propose that we all work out together. The biggest excuse is time, and, granted, it's tough. But it can be done and it's really important to make time to exercise, even if it's going for a walk. It felt so good to be at 234. I don't want that to be as close as I'll ever get, so I'm gonna work at it until I look like Tony Horton (the guy who hosts P90X).
So here I go again. Pray for me and let me know what's going on.
P.S. For those with any interest, after much thought, I think I will continue to write the book, though I'm going to change some of what I've written already. It'll be a slow process, too, but one day it'll get there. It's fun and relaxing. If you'd like, give me advice, story lines, or suggestions, but don't feel bad if they don't make it.
P.P.S If you want to read my paper on the Emigration and Integration of Ethiopian Jews, I'm going to post it--not to brag or anything, just as a source for those who don't know. If anything, read the bibilography and check out those books. 30 pages doesn't do justice to Ethiopian Jews' story.
I'm out.
